Money set aside
Goals and budget rollover reserve money without moving it. Your bank balance stays the same, and what the app says you can spend goes down.

Reserved in place#
Set aside is money that's still in your account but already committed to something, so the app stops counting it as yours to spend. Nothing is transferred anywhere.
So when you create a savings goal, your available balance drops right away while your bank balance stays put. That's the reservation working.
The balance equation shows where it's taken out: between your true balance and what you can spend.
Two kinds of money set aside#
Open the Set aside term in the breakdown, and each row carries a small chip naming its kind.
- Goal
- A savings goal holding money back for something with a name and a date.
- Rollover
- A budget category with rollover on, holding what it didn't spend in earlier periods.
Both come off your spendable balance the same way. They come from different places, and you release them differently.
Spending it leaves Unassigned where it was#
When a rollover category spends from its rollover, the amount set aside goes down and the amount available for budgeting goes up by exactly the same amount. So Unassigned doesn't move.
Releasing it#
Both kinds can be released, and neither release moves money by itself.
- A goal
- Return to Spendable un-earmarks it and archives the goal, and the money stays where it is. The other closing options move money, and the goals guide sets out the difference.
- A rollover
- Turning rollover off releases it back to Unassigned. The dialog names the amount before you confirm. Pausing the budget does the same for a while.
